Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need a licensed gas fitter in Queensland?
Yes, absolutely. All gas work in Queensland must be performed by a licensed gas fitter. This includes connecting appliances, installing gas lines, and carrying out repairs. Using an unlicensed person is illegal and extremely dangerous — it can void your insurance and put lives at risk.
Can I install my own gas appliances in Queensland?
No. Queensland law prohibits homeowners from connecting or disconnecting gas appliances themselves. All gas work must be done by a QBCC licensed gas fitter. This applies to gas cooktops, ovens, hot water systems, heaters, and BBQ points.
What should I do if I smell gas in my home?
If you smell gas, do not turn any lights or switches on or off. Open doors and windows immediately, turn off the gas at the meter if safe to do so, and leave the building. Call us on 0401 441 452 for an emergency gas leak response, or call your gas retailer's emergency line.
What is a gas compliance certificate and do I need one?
A gas compliance certificate (also called a certificate of compliance) is issued by a licensed gas fitter to confirm that gas work has been completed to Australian standards. It is required when selling a property, completing renovations, and for insurance purposes. We issue compliance certificates for all gas work we complete.
